![]() This order will be delivered electronically. I'm going to be routing line-level audio from my interface and/or VariOS Sampler into my modular rig when I get it.Electronic Software Download (ESD). Thanks for sharing, I'll have to hold out until that's on the market! And hopefully will sound better than the A-119 viewtopic.php?t=32362 The forthcoming Intellijel "Audio Input" module looks like it'll have cv Rise & Fall built in, which will be awesome. For example you could smooth out the "fall" portion of a gate signal so it decays gradually, but leave the "rise" very short to emulate the fast attack of an envelope curve. The A-170 is cheap and does the job, especially the bottom section that has separate rise/fall controls. Usually if you are processing line-level signals you can try plugging them straight into your filter to see if they are loud enough without a preamp boost.Īnyway, congrats on beginning a system. And don't forget to try running some other signal instead of your audio through the envelope follower - this is the coolest part of owning a modular as opposed to FX pedals where your input signal is hard-wired to the envelope follower. But in the end, the TL074 is definitely recommended.Īnd my other tip - the envelope follower is an excellent modulation source but having a slew limiter to smooth it out is very helpful. Here's a thread with a lot of discussion, if you're up for reading it. But it will improve the sound quality of the preamp. They are cheap, I think less than a dollar. The A-119 comes with a TL064 chip and I highly recommend swapping it out with a TL074 chip. Robkramble wrote:Any recommendations/modifications? I like LFOs every once in a while but I feel like they're too easy to use as a crutch or forget to vary enough, so I'll save one for later. Having a good resonant lowpass or special filter, have an envelope for that filter, and setting a threshold for when that envelope triggers and how much it effects the filter. I'm looking to make a modular filter setup capable of the basic things you could do in, say, FabFilter's Volcano 2 filter plugin. I've used a few of the Doepfer multimodes and they are all great, but have different characters. My vote will always sway towards the A105 for a decent low pass filter, that thing is a gem. What type of filter sounds are you after? Will be easier for people to recommend you types of filters to get if you have some idea of what kind of sounds you want. Then you'll know what you want to expand to when you think 'oh shit, if I had an extra x module, then I'd be able to do this' etc etc. I know you said you're on a tight budget and I was the same (started modulars whilst at Uni), so you can always pick up a couple of filters, mixers and modulation sources and see how you get on. After that, if you picked up a VCO or 2, you'd have a full synth! VCAs so you can control dynamic depth of modulation. Also mixers so you can mix filter types together.
